Border Routers

• Each  AS  has 
  • one  or  more  border  routers  that  connect  to  adjacent  ASs  and  route  packets  to  and  receive  packets  from  these  ASs
    
  • one    or  more  border  routers  that  serve  as  the  speakers  for  the  AS.  Speakers  are  responsible  for  running  the  BGP  routing  protocol
    
• The  speakers  communicate  with  border  routers  in  adjacent  ASs,  using  TCP 
• Message  types:  OPEN,  KEEPALIVE,  UPDATE,  NOTIFICATION  (errors)
